Aug 2006

MBRM has been highlighted as a ground breaker in Microsoft Blog in relation to increased speed of calculation using multi-threaded calculations for upcoming major release of Excel 2007 (also called Excel 12).

Launch of multi-thread enabled Universal Add-Ins (v10) for Excel 2007

MB Risk Management (MBRM) are pleased to announce the launch of version 10 of the Universal Add-ins that support multi-threaded calculation (MTC) in the new version of Microsoft Excel 2007.

Whilst Excel 2007 is due for launch in 2007, users can now download a trial copy of this upcoming major release of Excel from Microsoft's web site.

If you have a machine with dual-core or multiple CPUs, you can experience manifold speed increases when using the new multi-threaded version 10 of the Universal Add-ins under Microsoft Excel 2007. The speed increase during intensive calculations is almost directly proportional to the number of cores/CPUs used.

The following is an extract from our internal whitepaper on the issue:

Time to recalculate MBRM UNIVOPT benchmark speed test spreadsheet

Test 1: Single core machine
  Using Excel 2003 69.5 seconds
  Using Excel 2007 69.5 seconds

Test 2: Dual-core machine
  Using Excel 2003 88.9 seconds
Using Excel 2007 with 1 calculation thread 88.8 seconds
Using Excel 2007 with 2 calculation thread 45.7 seconds
Using Excel 2007 with 3 calculation thread 45.0 seconds
